Dubai-Based Movers Serving Umm Al Quwain
1stMove is based in Dubai and regularly moves households, villas, and businesses between Dubai and Umm Al Quwain — one of the shortest inter-emirate corridors we run, though with a route choice that works differently here than on our other short corridors. We're not a local Umm Al Quwain branch; we're a Dubai moving company that plans every Umm Al Quwain move around whichever route is actually quickest that day.
We handle the full range of moves in both directions: studio and apartment relocations, villa moves, office and corporate relocations, single-item and furniture-only moves, and short-term storage if your new place isn't ready the same day you're moving out.
This builds directly on what our Office & Corporate Relocation and International Relocation teams already do — both already coordinate inter-emirate moves to Umm Al Quwain as part of their service, including IT equipment and server relocation for businesses with a presence in both emirates. Booking directly through this page gets you the same team with a route planned specifically around current Dubai-Umm Al Quwain traffic conditions.
Every Umm Al Quwain move starts with an assessment of what's moving and what your specific building or community requires for access, so nothing gets held up at either end on move day.

Moving to Umm Al Quwain: What to Know
Umm Al Quwain is the UAE's smallest emirate by population — a quieter, more traditional place than any of the other corridors we run.
Umm Al Quwain has the smallest population of the UAE's seven emirates, generally estimated at under 100,000 people. Its economy traditionally centred on fishing, agriculture, and date palm cultivation, and while logistics, trade, and light manufacturing have grown through the Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone (hosting businesses from over 150 nationalities), it remains a noticeably quieter, less built-up emirate than any of its neighbours.
Cost of living is a major draw: Umm Al Quwain is consistently grouped with Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah as among the most affordable places to live in the UAE, generally around 30% cheaper than Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Rent is the clearest example — a central one-bedroom apartment typically runs a fraction of the equivalent Dubai price. Many residents commute to Dubai (about 45 minutes) or Sharjah (about 30 minutes) for work while living in Umm Al Quwain for the lower cost and quieter pace.
Umm Al Quwain also has UAE's most relaxed retail alcohol rules: no personal liquor license is required at all to buy from a licensed shop (just ID for age verification), and it's home to one of the UAE's largest bottle shops. The standard national drinking age of 21 still applies, and public drinking, public intoxication, and driving after drinking remain strictly illegal — but for retail purchase specifically, Umm Al Quwain is more permissive than Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Ajman, all of which require a personal license.
Getting Between Dubai and Umm Al Quwain
It's a short corridor, but the fastest route here works differently than on some of our other short moves.
Dubai and Umm Al Quwain sit roughly 57-70km apart depending on the exact start and end point, a 45-50 minute drive via the coastal Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) under normal traffic — this is usually the faster option here, even though it passes through Sharjah and Ajman's urban stretches. The alternative, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311), covers a longer distance of around 114km and takes closer to an hour and 10 minutes on this particular route — a genuine reversal from some of our other corridors, where E311 is usually the quicker bypass. Emirates Road (E611) is a third option that avoids central Dubai. Whichever route we take, Salik toll gates apply on the Dubai stretch, and Thursday afternoons tend to see the worst congestion across all three.
Umm Al Quwain's tenancy system is also its own: rental relationships are governed by Umm Al Quwain Law No. 3 of 2008, later amended by Law No. 2 of 2011. Registration is handled by the Umm Al Quwain Municipality's Real Estate & Property Department, which registers certified lease contracts, issues NOCs, and verifies property ownership — done through the UAQ Government Portal with a passport copy, Emirates ID, and the property title deed. We check this status early since it affects when a tenancy can be legally closed out or started.
We factor route choice, toll gates, and tenancy-registration status into scheduling from the first conversation, so your moving date isn't set around a guess.
For corporate relocations, this same coordination extends to Umm Al Quwain's free-zone and industrial areas — server rooms and office equipment get the same anti-static wrapping and careful transport used on our Dubai office moves, adapted to your specific building's access rules.
